In June 2013, I was referred by my family physician to the urology clinic because of elevated PSA levels. In July, it was confirmed that I had early stage prostate cancer. This is the point after which the quality and professionalism of the clinic made the difference in my life.
In the end I opted for complete removal of my prostate by robotic surgery. What has impressed me throughout the process was the steps taken by the Doctors at the clinic. It began with a consultation in which I was given all the options for treatment, the risks and side-effects of each. In addition, the process included my wife being allowed to sit in on the consultations. This is big when you have a partner with whom you always make decisions. My wife ended up being present at the hospital during the procedure and she told me how the doctor kept her informed and updated during the process. This is customer service at its best.
The surgery was very successful and even more remarkable is the comprehensive post-surgical care package which I am currently undergoing. I am being cared by a group of skilled and compassionate professionals within the hospital System.
Thanks to Dr. Parekattil and his team I am progressing ahead of most of my peers who have had similar treatment for prostate cancer. I will be back to work within 5 weeks of surgery, whereas most persons were telling me that it would take at least 6 weeks.
